1992 Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port

Post by Bill Crann »

Opened 1-24-08. Color of cranberry juice w/ very slight fading on the rim. Not much bottle sediment. After 6 hour decant this port was pretty disjointed with a mildly unpleasant spirity streak distracting from the red fruit driven palate. After a day, and continuing through the second day, the wine became more integrated, but the spirit still lingers a bit. Compared to the '92 Warre and Dow SQVP's, this is the weak sister of the trio. A welterweight, fruity VP with subdued tannins in the shortish, spirity finish. Pleasant enough for drinking while reading a Patrick O'Brien sea story after the kids are in bed, but the better LBV's surpass this SQVP. This one might get a wee little better with some more age, but it's not beefy enough to put on much muscle. 86 points
