The must wineries in Madeira

Post by *Veibiakneed »

I am a new member of this forum and I have never been in Madeira. I am a sommelier and interested in Madeira wines. I hav a week on me (3.-10.3.2008) so could someone please tell me the best wineries to visit.
I am born in 1936. Can I still find a wine from that year for reasonable price ?

i am afraid you should/must visit them all, since the wineries are rather different. you would not want to miss the tour at MWC, nor miss the time travel at ABSL. also there is free tasting of old vintages at D'Oliveiras, a reasonable priced 1936 boal at H.M.Borges and more old vintages at Barbeitos and H&H.
why not take the Funchal winewalk of the MadeiraWineGuide one day and visit Barbeito and Henriques&Henriques (in Camara de Lobos) the next day. the winewalk can be found at http://www.madeirawineguide.com/70guide ... _winewalk/
i am not 100% sure about the H.M. Borges wine from 1936, they used to sell it for under 100 Euros, you might have to ask for the wine, if it is not on display in the adega.
enjoy your trip!

Peter,

They no longer have that for sale at the adega. In fact, I don't they offer it for sale to their importers from what I know of H.M. Borges.

I can usually tell when someone will be a one hit wonder ... sometimes with the flip side shown but then a quick disappearing act.

I have a Barbeito Boal 1936, so maybe you should ask Americo at Diogo's !
