I was visiting very good friends in Vancouver whilst attending the annual Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival. Hanging out with my good friends Blair & Bronwyn is always fun and one night we had a great offline with old Barolos at a super restaurant which sadly must remain annonymous due to the laws up there. I say sadly, because the food and wine service was so spectacular that as a mere guest, when the bill came and I saw the pp pricing ... which included a 20% tip and tax already, I felt that we should all put in another $20 a piece for the staff. You can imagine they were pretty darn happy with us. I don't do that too often, but this was one heck of a place and anyone who ever plans to go to Vancouver, email me for the name!
Now, onto the Madeira.
At the end of the offline, I opened a bottle of 1940 HM Borges and you can read a TN of that wine in the current newsletter. Additionally, I opened one of my very few bottles of RWC "New Orleans" from the Historic Series, featuring TNM and Terrantez, which together offer great Terrantez typicity.
The following night there was a small party held after the final tasting at the Convention Center, which followed a great 5 person offline held by a FTLOP lurker, originally from Iran. I wound up opening a young but very tasty 1969 D'Oliveiras Sercial which was a real thirst quencher and a few folks who had never tried Madeira were hooked like trout.
