1983 Gould Campbell

Again, can this be the first TN on this wine?

Medium full bodied, smooth and medium sweet. Very very dark in the glass, colour right to the edge of the rim suggests it could age much more, though it seemed mature.

I tasted black cherry, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, cola, Sambuca, and sweet BBQ sauce.

I score this 91 points.

This is the sleeper of the '83 vintage with lots of aging potential. Smith Woodhouse (actually the property where Gould Cambell is vinified) is also headed for a long aging curve. However, imo, the GC is a considerably better VP, maybe not a dramatic difference in points, but in sheer pleasure today and dare I say, tomorrow too.

How long did you decant?

I don't recall, to be honest, but I usually decant in the morning to drink in the evening.

Tonight we're having a 94 Graham from a half, and tomorrow a 77 Dow and 91 Vargellas (portloving friend from the WS Forums in town for the weekend coming for supper tonight, and an offline in his honour tomorrow). Funny how I always seem to drink ports in bunches, then go weeks without.

I opened a few '77 Dow's this month and had 2 of the 3 corked, damn it!

I'd love to read your TNs on that one as well as the 1991 Vargellas which I have liked early and often (incl. recently).
