While new to tasting notes and all the lingo - plum, raisin, blackberry.. tannins, etc. recently I spent mothers day weekend at my inlaws family reunion - as my brother-in-law is getting married at the end of the month and I missed his bachelor party I brought the port for this weekend - first night's tasting included and 85 and 94 graham. decanted both bottels for at least six hours. It was unanimous the 94 trumped the 85 -- being a novice it was very apparent that the '85 was missing something vs the deep long lasting flavor of the '94 and it never seemed to open up.
Croft '77 vs '03 - -the '77 won out the second night and was a tie with the Graham '94 -- although the '77 croft was lighter in color and not as deep in taste as the 85 graham - the Croft '77 was still very smooth. It was the first time tasting a young port Croft '03 and the last

--- contrary to Roy's comments of trying young ports I'll choose to wait until the proper time -- it had little long lasting taste and i still have half the bottle.
the end of the month, the day before the wedding, we will be trying a Dow 1970 -- we'll see how that goes.
