$13,000 for a case of Vintage Port?

Post by Andy Velebil »

$12,936.00 to be precise! I had to do a double take when I saw this. I was thinking something like a case of 1963 Nacional or something...NO WAY. It was for a case of 1977 Taylor's  That comes out to $1,078/bottle (750ml). Don't think I'll be buying from them anytime soon

Oh, did I mention the almost $8,000 for a case of 1977 Dows VP...thats about $660 per bottle

Wow, that makes this almost seem reasonable:
1963 Fonseca's Vintage Port 12 x 750ml $4,380.00

Are these guys located in Canada by any chance???

Thats still 1/2 the price of the 77 Dows and the 63 Fonseca is a better VP IMO. Their pricing makes no sense :wall:

You should offer to supply him with '77 Taylor for $500 per bottle! He could double his money!!!

I'll tell you what. I am willing to sell two cases of 1977 Taylor. One is in the original wooden case. The other includes the very first bottle of Vintage Port I ever bought over 20 years ago. The two cases can be had for a mere $10,000 for anybody interested. Neither case was ever owned by anyone else, so provenance is assured.  :Naughty:

A lot of money for the NN, but not really a lot for a case of it. That's only about $1600 - 1700 per bottle.

That at least is semi-understandable... if somebody didn't know what he was supposed to pay for NN'63 it could be someone new to BVP who has been told how great NNs are, particularly '31, '63, etc and has more money than he knows what to do with. (Or he could have won the Lotto... If I had won the $43Million dollar jackpot last week I probably would have attended that auction and bid up even THAT price... ;))

Even more serious that it was actually for 3 bottles not a case...

wow.. okay, that is ridiculous.

Hmm, Canadian prices (if that NN were available here) might even be slightly less... but not by much! :help:

Maybe whomever is selling that bottle is hoping that someone confuses 1963 for 1964... :? :?

Marc,

I know, their prices are out of control. But I'm sure someone, somewhere, would be stupid enough to buy it :help:

Good point. If they have more money than they know what to do with, and it is convenient for them, why not? (I'd like to be rich enough to consider paying some of those prices... )
