The plot thickens....I just won at auction a bottle of 1983 Quinta do Noval Quinta do Silval Vintage Port. When I get the bottle I will post a pick of this.

Did this turn out to be what it was sold as in the auction catalogue? Do you have a picture of the bottle?
Thanks

Re: Did Quinta do Noval ever make a single quinta
From Alex Liddell's book 'Port Wine Quintas of the Douro' (published 1992)
More recently (since '97) the wines are said to come from Noval alone, but I recall learning that the current Noval is actually two quintas, seamlessly merged. However I can't immediately find the source of that information. Malvedos (and probably many other quintas) is also the product of merged quintas, so it is probably reasonable to allow merged quintas to be considered 'single'
Tom
Thus Noval wines were a blend of wines from several quintas, some of which were sometimes separately bottled."The quinta includes several smaller ones: the Quinta da Obra Nova, the Quinta do Marco, the Quinta das Orgueiras and the Quinta de Abrahao (all bought by Luis de Vasconcelos Porto, or before him), the Quinta das Aradas (bought by Cristiano's uncles), and the Quintas das Canadas (bought by Cristiano in 1988). For practical purposes the Quinta do Silval, situated close to Noval, is also counted as part of the quinta"

I also have an '83 Noval Quinta do Marco and I plan on opening them side by side to see how they compare to each other.
Many large quintas have aquired neighboring property and expanded over the decades. So Tom, I agree that they have to be considered a "single"
