What do the madeira experts think of D'Oliveiras 15 years "Medium Sweet" or the Sweet version?

I will check TNs tomorrow, from my visit to D'Oliveiras in May. We had so many amazing bottles that afternoon, I can't remember if we tried that one at the beginning or not.

I tried the D'Oliveira's sweet or medium sweet about two years ago in Acton when Grape Moments started pushing D'Oliveira's. I thought it was very good. Buy it. I also bought the 15-year Meio Seco, which was overpriced at $57, IMHO. The D'Oliveira's wines are a good addition to the market.

At $57, that is not much of a mark up. So, you think the sweet was better?

I thought that the sweet wine was better. I like verdelho and terrantez, but thought that the meio seco did not measure up to the sweet one. But that was two years ago.

Moses,

Have you tried the 15 year old Malmsey by H.M. Borges?

Yes, it is a local company based here in the Seattle area. I should have more information next week, when I see the rep from that company.

Roy
Aidil Wines & Liquors in mighty New Bedford, MA is our local distributor

I see "H.M. BORGES OLD RESERVA MALMESEY VELHA 10yrs. OLD" for around $300.00 a case.

Do you think it is worth that price?

No, I don't see that from the importer.

If available, the 15 yo Malmsey from Borges would be house Madiera for sure.
Good news Roy!

Moses,

I recently bought D'Oliveira's 1973 boal for $65/bottle from DePrez in New York. The importer was Aidil Wine & Liquor from New Jersey. Is this the same/affiliated distributor that you mentioned from New Bedford? If so, and they have the 1973B, it is an excellent QPR

Thanks for head's up. If I can get it a little cheaper, are you interested in some?

Yes, I would be interested. I would also like to know what other vintages or 10/15 year wines they carry. RWC does not import all of the vintages of madeira that are being produced
