Help - my father has asked me to obtain a value on a 30 year vintage Sandemans Port bottled in 1980 - label and seals intact
I have no idea where to try and then stumbled across this fantastic site. Can anyone give me an idea please....

Graham,
Welcome to FTLOP
We would need to know more about this bottle before giving much advice. You say it is "a 30 year vintage Sandemans Port bottled in 1980 " - this suggests it is a Tawny port with an age of over 30 years. If so, this is not a Vintage Port.
Please respond by typing out the words that appear on the front label of the bottle.
If, as suspected, it is a 30 yr old Tawny bottle 26 years ago it will not have a high value as that wine is intended to be consumed within 1 or 2 years of bottling.

Thank you for the prompt replies - unfortunately I forgot to bring my digicamera to put a picture on web. Quite right it appears to be a "Tawny" port and I have put pictures at

and I would appreciate any further info out of interest

Now that I've seen the pictures, I think Derek has summed up the wine. Its not going to be worth a great deal of money. Someone might buy it on ebay - but its a roll of the dice.
On the other hand, you could always open it and drink it. I have absolutely no idea how it would taste. I guess its just another roll of the dice.
Let us know what you and your Dad decide to do.

Looking to the label this wine is definitely a "Sandeman 30-Year Old Tawny", a type of Port that Sandeman no longer carries on its catalog.bridgema wrote:[...]I think Derek has summed up the wine. However, I would be myself curious to know how this 30Y Tawny (bottled in 1980) would taste nowadays :)
