NV Casa de Santa Eufemia Special Reserve White Port

Post by Bjørn Tore Aastorp Ruud »

This is really a secret wine. I hope not too many reads this TN. One of my all time favorite port wines, and it`s a white one.
It is very complex and so integrated everything. The color is light to dark brown, you know the point where red wines and aged white wines has the same color.
Amazing stuff. The wine is really a 1972 vintage white port, allthough it is not permited to put "vintage" on the label for white ports.

Has aromas of dried fruit like figs, balsamic wood, raisins, white chocolate, nuts, some curry.
Medium bodied, slightly oily texture, in few words superelegant and complex stuff.
And cheap too.

The experts says that there is nothing like this white port on the market anymore. Niepoort did some great whites before world war 2, but this is now the queen.

Great, great experience.
:hello: :D

I thought it may have been 1973, but could certainly be mistaken. Bjorn, what a fun wine to try. I've only had it twice and have really enjoyed it both time. Thanks for providing us a really good feel for this one. I hope you will continue to share with us as you know I have great respect for your Port palate.

It is a 1973, at least according to Maria Theresa at AVEPOD. I asked her about it specifically as I was purchasing her last bottle.

Thanks for the TN Bjørn!

As Glenn mentioned and I too in the other thread, it is a 1973. I wouldn't say its the greatest White Colheita there is, as I've had a couple that were better. But it is a very nice bottle and I am glad to own a few for special birthyear celebrations...being a '73 baby this the only Port I know of to be sold at retail from my birth year.

if anyone finds any other 1973 Ports, please let me know.
