South African Port

Post by Al B. »

I came across this article at lunchtime when surfing for information on South African "port". I hadn't realised that the South African port producers have now planted and are vinifying the traditional port varieties.

I have not read the article yet but will do so. Glad to see you used the small "p" in port (except in the thread title). Some SA producers have been using native Portuguese varietals for over a decade. I visited some very fine estates in the Western Cape's winelands that produce excellent port-style of dessert wines.

IMO, generalizing here ... SA does Tawny port best, but a couple are making some very tasty ruby/vintage port-styled wines as well.
