Quincentennial anniversary of Funchal

Post by Ray Barnes »

Can anyone advise what Funchal has been been doing this year to promote the madeira trade as part of its 500th anniversary of town status celebrations?

That is a great question. I can do my best to try and find out. Sadly, it would not shock me if this was just a rather quiet celebration. But we could make it a bigger one here. How about a virtual Madeira tasting to celebrate?

Who wants in?

What date are they celebrating? I'll open a bottle for sure.

Since I am a newbie here I would like to know what a virtual tasting is...and I would like to join the fun.

Roy mentioned seeing the Wine Spectator recently with a air dryer for wine glasses...this issue (cover story is...surprise surprise...Syrah) also has a full page ad of Madeira. To my great surprise, this ad does not provide any url links, just some nice pictures. I don't believe the anniversary is even mentioned there. I'm still shaking my head in mild disbelief.
