WHERE CAN I GET A TRUSTED VINTAGE FOR MY 50TH BIRTHDAY?
PORTO ROCHA has launched a new Port to answer this question!
Each year thousands of customers ask for a port to celebrate this most important birthday, but we don’t always have a tawny (Colheita) or ruby (Vintage) from that year. And Ports with an indication of age only range as far as a 40 Year Old Tawny. So, Wineworth has created a blend approximating 50 years, under the trade mark label “The Glorious 50th”, which has just been approved by Portugal’s prestigious IVDP or Port and Douro Wine Institute.
The name can almost be said to have come from Importer, Bernice Cromwell exclaiming after tasting the 50th blend in reaching for perfection – “Ah, the Glorious 50th!” To reach this peak, we arrived at a final blend of Colheitas from 1937, 1957, plus 30 Year and 10 Year Old Tawnies.
Celebrating this most important occasion? Here’s a spectacular blend of vintage tawnies, approximating 50-years! In the blend -- the aromatic 1937 fills the room with aromas of orange zest on a walnut base. The 1957 adds flavors of burnt Demerara sugar with mocha undertones. The 30 and 10 year old tawnies deliver caramel topped by bright mountain wildflower honey -- all finishing with haunting notes of hazelnuts and orange marmalade.
Packaging comes in 375ml and 750ml bottles with each bottle in its own wood box with a clear plastic sliding front cover. The 750ml will be packed 6 to a carton and the 375ml 12 to a carton.
I will be tasting this wine this coming week and will publish my tasting note and impressions in the newsletter that will be coming out before the end of the month.

I don't believe that this wine fits into any specific category, but when I meet with the importer and developer of the idea behind the wine and decision maker of the blend ... I will be sure to ask.
He has been behind the Rocha 150th Anniversary and other specialty cuvees that don't fit into any specific niche.
This is a brilliant strategy and I admire this man's creative thinking and palate. Coincidentally, he was the only other American (just 2 of us)
enthroned into the Port Wine Institute's Confraria in 2003.

Now I will be ALWAYS abble to have , at least ,more available bottles for the enormous number of people entering at my bar asking for a Port to celebrate the 50 th aniversary!
