1994 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port

Post by Robert O. »

Cork fell apart upon opening but decanted through cheese cloth so it was fine. Lots of fruit on the nose: cherries and apple. Licorice. No noticeable sediment.

+1.5 hours -- lots of fruit, mostly cherry, a hint of chocolate. Smooth, no noticeable alcohol.

+3.25 hours -- lots of red fruit, long finish. Acidity creates a long, juicy finish.

+4 hours -- coming together nicely. The chocolate is starting to dominate the cherry, fruit tastes, but it is subtle. Nice, long finish. Silky and voluptuous.

Threw this in the fridge to rest over night (my apartment gets very hot).

+27 hours -- chocolatey, some raisins, thick and silky.

I am not a big fan of LBV ports, but this was really very nice. Best LBV I've ever had. I could see it getting better over the next 5 years or so. I give it a 89

Robert thanks for the TN on this. It is one of my favorite LBV's and I like it a tad better than the 1995 version.

I haven't seen the '95 version but I'll have to keep my eye out for it

Lots available here... it is a staple in my Port collection as far as "things I can drink now but may end up being better in 5-10 yrs"... It is drinking fine now, so I really do have a hard time keeping my hands off it at the moment!!! :Naughty:
