Basic Tasting Presentation

Post by Morten »

Hi portloving guys and gals,

Tomorrow I'm supposed to host a basic port tasting at work, and I was wondering if anyone know of a powerpoint or something like that with just the basics about port - like a map of the Douro region, quick primer to the basic types and such? Asking since I'm really lousy at making powerpoints.

Really appreciate it

Regards
Morten

I can't help you with the power point presentation but if you look at the homepage of this website and check out the Frequently Asked Questions section (FAQs) you will find lots of the information you are seeking.

Good luck tomorrow! :winepour:

Thanks Roy,

I'll see if I can whip up something useful - if I actually achieve in making something useable, maybe we could stick it in the downloads section for others in the same situation as me.

Here is the bottles I've chosen for the tasting tomorrow:

Vista Alegre 10 years old
Vista Alegre 30 years old
Feist Colheita 1995
Delaforce VP 1977

if anyone has a couple of notes regarding these bottles please don't hesitate to post :)

Cool bottles. I really love the Alegre Aged Tawny's, especially that 30 year old. I dont have my TNs right now, but those two are nice bottles. Please post a TN to let us know how the bottles were.

That's a good line up and any booze at work is welcome!

Keep the presentation simple. 3 line description of each style. A few photos of the Douro. A couple slides on how to taste port and what to look for. Maybe a couple of trival points on the history and lore... Don't overwhelm on info and make the detail discussion points after their initial samples of the port.

The only one I have tried is the '77 Delaforce... Wish I was at your office for this one! :salute:

I kept it to 5 slide , with a couple of pictures of me and the boys at a Quinta and such. The colheita was not that great - or maybe it had gone bad.

The two tawnies are really tasty, had a bit of trouble taking notes as I was answering questions left and right, and as I anticipated the Delaforce '77 was the most popular of the evening. Almost prune juice colored, and I noticed quite a development in the nose of it during the 6 hours I had it decanted.

One thing I noticed about the tawnies - the 30 year old weren't that different from the 10 years old - if I'm to buy them again, I'll probably go for 3 bottles of 10 year old instead of a single 30 year old ;)
