1991 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port
Opened and poured into the decanter at about noon, the color is very dark. Sniffs of the decanter shows some light acetic/VA. After an hour, decanted back into the bottle. Revisited in the evening ~9 pm. Now we're talking! The VA has blown off, and it has a great nose of graham cracker, red & black licorice, plums, toffee, and mineral. Very well-integrated and balanced with a great mouthfeel and a sweet finish. This is like a cross between the 91 Dow's and the 91 Graham's - i.e. color/density (like the Dow's) and mouthfeel/sweetness (like the Graham's). The whole is better than the sum of the parts. 93 pts
