2003, 2005, 2007 kids

Post by Bryan H. »

Good karma?

My kids were born in 2003, 2005 and 2007. From reading here, it looks like 03 and 05 were general declarations and 07 is about to be.

So, any recommendations for either (1) the best VP, as far as people think now, for each vintage to get some bottles of until my kids are 21 or so, or (2) maybe one house where we think the VPs will be great for all 3?

Probably have to wait a bit to include 2007 as far as predictions, but so far (again just from reading here because I am new to this), it looks like Quinta do Vesuvio is a possibility. I have one bottle of the 2003 already.

Thoughts? Vesuvio, others, or a mix?

2005 was not a general declaration but some good things came out of it. In any orders of preference from what I have tasted, here some suggestion I'd focus on buying more if I had the budget.

2003 : Fonseca, Taylor, Niepoort, Noval, Warre's

2005 : Vesuvio( buy tons :) ), NIepoort, Roriz, Warre's Cavadinha, Croft Quinta da Roeda

2007 : Only tasted Niepoort from barrel :( Looks like something good to buy though.

Frederick,

Thanks for the clarification on 2005. It sounds like looking for the Vesuvio for 2005 is a good start. I also forgot at the time of my last post that I just bought 2 bottles of the 2005 Barros VP. So at least it is something for that year.

Thanks for the advice.

I just recently bought two bottles of the 2005 Barros as well. Until recently Barros wasn't a top-tier producer, but Roy has raved about the 2005 on multiple occasions now. Other 2005s I've been thinking about getting are Croft Quinta do Roeda and Taylor Quinta de Vargellas, again based on Roy's recommendations.

In a related note, the 2005 Kopke is also quite good.
