1977 Dalva?
Anybody ever had one? I couldn't find any tasting notes. Of course there are plenty of notes on the 1952 white, which someday I must taste, but not this one. I got the impression at Vinologia that Dalva wasn't all that great these days, but what about back in 1977? I've liked just about all of the '77s I've tasted, so I'm tempted by this.
Re: 1977 Dalva?
i have had the 1977 Dalva twice at the Dalva Lodge above what used to be Presuntisco, where I have taken a number of guests over the years. It is very good but it is a Colheita and not a Vintage Port that I've had from 1977. So if yours is definitely a Vintage (I'd have them look for a bottling date at the retailer) then I am clueless and would actually be surprised. Typically in the USA, Dalva is not imported here. It does come in from the parent company called C. da Silva. Dalva is just a brand name used in most of Europe, plus Portugal and Brazil. Here in the USA the same juice gets the label of Presidential.

It looked like a VP, but I didn't win the auction to find out what it tastes like.

Hello Eric, I´m Gonçalo and I work in Vinologia, actually I´m the owner´s son, I´ll say that 77 Dalva it´s very nice, but interesting it´s of course apart of 52 Golden White, a nice tasting of colheitas from Dalva 1995 - 1985 - 1975. I´ll say that I prefer the 75 rather the 77 colheita.
Hope to see you here to :blah: and

Ahhh, then we may have met, but I'm not 100% sure about that. My wife and I stopped in a few times on trip last year; and she, the fluent French speaker, spoke a bit with your father. I do hope to visit again.goncalo devesas wrote:Hello Eric, I´m Gonçalo and I work in Vinologia, actually I´m the owner´s son, I´ll say that 77 Dalva it´s very nice, but interesting it´s of course apart of 52 Golden White, a nice tasting of colheitas from Dalva 1995 - 1985 - 1975. I want to say I have seen '77 "Presidential" offered somewhere recently.

I recall the same...or it was talked about here in another thread. Sometimes it blurs together :wall:Moses Botbol wrote:I want to say I have seen '77 "Presidential" offered somewhere recently.

Eric,
I popped one of these in April last year - fully mature, acceptable, but not stunning. Took a long time to show its best in the decanter mind..
..there's a note on the TPF site.
