1995 Warre LBV Port

Post by Mike Kerr »

Decanted for 10 mins...

Dark cherry, with faint bricking on the edges. Quite fruity on the nose, lots of berries, figs, walnuts, and caramel. Oaky presence on the palate, nicely balanced. Very fruity, but surprisingly light and quaffable. Aspects of gorgonzola, chocolates, and nuts with a touch of citrus. Some tannin, but it still tastes a little thinner than I would have expected. Beautiful finish, medium-long with a little spice. 16.5/20

Mike,

I hope you didn't finish it all within 10 minutes of decanting

I have had this a few times recently and found it to be at it's most enjoyable after 24 hours in the decanter.

Actually, it went down so easy, I could have... :D

As it was, I poured some immediately into a 375 and put it in the fridge. Will be trying some more shortly... 24 hours seems quite a while for an LBV to open up?

After 24 hours decanted...

Deep, dark cherry, with faint bricking on the edges. Still pretty fruity on the nose, lots of darker berries, plenty of chocolate and nuts. More earthy aromas. Thicker, lush mouthfeel. Brooding fruit on the palate, darker, nuttier, burnt caramel. Not as lively, but still nice. Finish is the same. 16/20
