[Madeira @ Patroon (NYC)]: Yet another big, intense wine, with a killer nose that goes straight to the pleasure zone of the brain. A bit sweeter than the previous wine, but as usual, the acidity is there in spades to balance things out. An unctuous, rich, wine with a seemingly endless and ethereal finish… this is damn good stuff. Outstanding. (95)

Bet madeira I ever have tasted.. But I am a "sweet tooth"..... I am saving a few of this one..

I haven't had this wine in about 10 years and I always wondered how I would like it now, as my tastes have somewhat migrated over to drier styles these days.

The one thing I do remember is the wonderfully unique profile -- more "lighter" flavors, such as dried oranges and apricots rather than the "heavier" flavors of caramel, treacle and nuts.

My taste has changed over to the drier Verdelho and Sercial styles as well, but this is just such a hedonistic and decadently rich and sweet wine, I still like it a lot and think this is as good as it gets, especially when you fall for sweet Madeiras.

At the Port and Madeira event in Seattle a few months ago, I think I liked this more than the other participants.
Yes, it is sweet without the complexity of the best Madeiras; but for me, quite satisfying. Maybe I have more of a sweet tooth as well.

It's been two years since I drank this one. I remember being delighted with it, but questioned if it should be as sweet as it was. Rich and hedonistic it fulfilled that need for a bold experience but maybe just too sweet and that took the edge off of it for me. I do have a sweet tooth also but maybe more to the Boal/Malvasia range. This was another two rungs up. Still have one in the cellar and look forward to trying it in the future. But if I could choose I would hope it looses a couple of degrees of sweetness.
