TN: Broadbent Terrantez Old Reserve

[Madeira @ Citizen Cake (San Francisco)]: This wine was aged in oak casks for well over 10 years, but its exact age is unknown, and thus not vintage dated. Very light brown in color, similar to the "Fine Rich" bottling, but with a green tinge on the rim that signifies greater age. Quite a step up in quality here. Denser and chunkier with more complex aromas and flavors. Dried fruits, caramel, orange skin, and wood smoke. Became even better with a bit of breathing. Long, lovely finish. 92 points

Good question... I had this at a tasting about 8 years ago and I don't think I ever saw this at retail. Checking "GlobalWineStocks.com", Broadbent Selections lists it at $210 (wholesale, I assume).

Sounds like RWC Historic is the best Terrantez value around unless someone knows of a better deal?

I think that the best value around for terrantez is the Barbeito terrantez reserve that RWC has for $80. It is a little drier than either the Broadbent or the Justino's 10-year. Another good value is the 1988 D'Oliveira which is about $90, but is drier than the others.

The Broadbent terrantez reserve now retails at $210 (http://www.broadbent-wines.com/index.cf ... _int=12010), so it is no longer a good value, IMHO. I last bought it for $35.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the Rare Wine Co. New Orleans Terrantez is no longer available. In fact, it sold out in its entirety ... almost as quickly as it hit the market. It originally debuted at $75 per bottle and those lucky enough to have obtained an allocation should really enjoy their bottles immensely. A very solid bottling and I wish I had many more than I do own.

I bought out a shop of their bottles of the Broadbent last year. I got three bottles for $105/bottle, so it might be worth it to look around.

I had this bottling last Nov. and it is REALLY excellent juice and worthy of a search. Very nice for a Terrantez of this age. I have not had a Madeira in like a month and am jonesing for one, but can't see having one until at least mid-Oct. unless I bring one down with me to the Fair to gulp late night when I get back to the motel.
