TN: 1898 Barbeito Sercial

Post by Marco D. »

[Madeira @ Plumpjack's (San Francisco)] Slightly darker than the 1916 Rutherfod and Miles Sercial. Amber, with a greenish rim. A bit denser than the previous wine, but softer and less grip. If I rest and come back to this wine, I can definitely sense the fine acids, but compared to the Rutherford and Miles tasted next to it, this is soft. Some brothy and smokey tea flavors. This has been in wood, demijohn and then bottled for about 6 years. ( 91 points )

[Madeira @ Triomphe (NYC)] Light tan in color with fresh tobacco leaf aromas. A bit of a medicinal note detracted. A nice, soft palate entry with a slight spirity note. Pipe tobacco elements lingered on the finish. A bit “pillowy” for a Sercial, but quite enjoyable. ( 90 points )
