Roy et. al.,
Greetings everyone! This is my first post on FTLOP, a site that, despite my friendship with Roy, I've been trying to avoid. Not because I wanted to, but because I was afraid to fuel the fires of a passion I can scarcely afford! That said, I'm delighted to be here, and hope to participate regularly. It's also high-time I got to showing some support to Roy...and get Peter Meek off my case! Haha! Just kidding, Pete!
So, down to business:
I received a call from a gent today seeking to sell what he called "Almeida Port.". He said he inherited them with the recent passing of his grandfather, and aside from a comment about keeping them cool, didn't seem to know much about either wine or Port. i'm only guessing they're VP because he didn't mention "colheita."
He has only the two bottles, '79 and '77, but more than interest in acquiring them, I'm curious to know about them. I've never heard of this brand. My first thought was Barros, but I figured that, as a neophyte, he'd have gone with the most prominent name on the label.
Can anyone share their insight?
I saw a thread from Weichers here about a '44 Nicolau Almeida; is this the same producer? Quinta or shipper? I found an Almeida website, but being that I'm on my phone right now, and the site Flash based, I couldn't view it.
Thanks, in advance, to all!

Chaad,
glad to have you with us. As for your question, can you post a picture of the front and back labels of the bottle? That oftens help us in identifying bottles much faster.
I hope you enjoy your stay with us, we are friendly chaps. So feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Andy,
The bottles I don't have, and my interest level in troubling the owner just for the sake of curiosity is quite low, so no pictures are likely to be forthcoming.
Given that it seems no one knows the brand, I'll gather that I'm not looking at some cult favorite, highly esteemed quinta, or otherwise rare gem.
I may toss the guy a ridiculously low offer of a few dozen dollars for them if he calls again, but honestly, don't want to insult the memory of his grandfather in so doing. I may just suggest he open them and take the opportunity to reflect on the capricious nature of time.

Hey Chaad,
Looking forward to seeing you again this December. I may ship bottles out there ahead of time. Looking forward to hitting ye old restaurant in AA. I wish I had more time to respond about your friend's bottles. Hopefully, soon!
