2005 VPs, have you been impressed so far?
Looking back just a couple of years ... to a vintage sandwiched between 2003 and the 2007 ... 2005 did not earn a general declaration. Some might argue it was worthy, while others point to some flaws.
What is your opinon on the 2005s and do you have some favorites?

Only partaken of 3 if I recall correctly. Vesuvio is by far my favourite and as Andy said in his tasting note it is stunning to drink young.

A very fine Vesuvio. I had the 1994 and 2007 Vesuvio's last night and what a fine pairing.
Would love to hear more from others about their 2005 experiences.

I own some of Barros, Croft's Quinta da Roeda, Niepoort, and Quinta de Roriz, but have yet to open any. I was going to save most for 2010+ drinking, but I guess I could open one of the Roriz this season. I still want to buy some of the Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas, but I think Andy bought up the last stock from a source that had it cheap

Roeda, Roriz, Niepoort, Vesuvio, Warre's Cavadinha would be VP from 2005 I'd buy without hesitation though none are available in Quebec

Frederick,
You need not put Niepoort's name in any of your posts like this one. We automatically assume that you will drink anything with the name Niepoort on it ... and like it regardless.

With the general declaration of 2007, Vintage 2005 has been forgotten. But I think it will give us a good surprise in 10 or 15 years, when we open that bottle of 2005 that was aging in the cellar, underneath the Vintage 2007. I tasted some and I liked!

Well put Oscar. 2005 had a few really nice surprises that have mostly flown under the radar.oscarquevedo wrote:With the general declaration of 2007, Vintage 2005 has been forgotten. I have to say that I´ll never forget the Quinta do Vezúvio 2005, in my opinon the best 2005 VP. ![Toast [cheers.gif]](./images/smilies/cheers.gif)

You know, I'm going to be harsh here --- None.
I haven't found anything that had a significant level of excitement to me. I've had lots of interesting 2004's and even 2006's. Yes, I've had the 2005 Vesuvio - last month. I *much* preferred the 1998 Vesuvio that we drank beside it. Maybe in 15 years I'll change my mind, but I'm sticking with years like 2003 for now.

David,
We have to make a tasting of Vintage 2005 in 4 or 5 years, just to check its quality
One of us will probably change the idea about 05.

Personally, I think 1995 is very solid indeed. That said, I do not think it worthy of a general declaration and am very pleased that 1994 was chosen over 1995. I also really like a bunch of 1995s, but just don't find enough great ones that this should have been declared.
