Chicago area Port dinner

Post by Eric Menchen »

I have no business interest in this other than I've purchased Port from Knightsbridge and thus am on their e-mailing list. Over the weekend they sent me the following:
Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe
Hosts a Dinner
Celebrating Port
at Restaurant Michael

Port Dinner
Monday, October 19, 2009
6:30 pm

Restaurant Michael
64 Green Bay Road, Winnetka, IL

$90 per person, inclusive

Knightsbridge invites you to join us for an evening out celebrating one of wine's most interesting catagories, port. Portugal's most prized export is often misunderstood. Ruby, tawny and vintage, what is the difference? For dessert only or with dinner too? Come and experience port in all it's richness, depth and pairing possibilites.

Chef Michael Lachowicz of award winning Restaurant Michael will offer a seasonal menu paired with fine Burgundies from Jadot and ports from Croft, Taylor Fladgate and Fonseca. Chris Forbes, Export Director at Fladgate Partnership, will be on hand to lead us through the experience.

RVSP through Knightsbridge at 847-498-9300. The evening, including dinner, wine, tax and gratuity is $90 per person and due upon reservation.

Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe

Eric,

Thanks for posting. I just saw it yesterday. As it happens, that is just a few minutes from where I live. If we can arrange a sitter on short notice, we are definitely going.

Anyone in the Chicago area planning to attend? They still have space.

Please tell Chris Forbes I send my regards! He is very aware of FTLOP and is a great guy to boot. Definitely go to this if you get the chance. I just did the Seattle version of this same tasting and it was a ton of fun. If you haven't seen the Blog post on the homepage of this site, that's where the details are located.

I hope you have a great time!

Unfortunately, we could not find a sitter and did not make the event. However, I'm on their email list so in the future I hope to be able to make it.

There are a few v. serious Port fans from Chicago that pop on this site's Forum and then don't come around for awhile. [shrug.gif] However, at some point, I am going to have to revisit Chitown and do a Port gig with you folks. [dance2.gif]

I have not been there since 1988 ... a real shame. :beat:

I will do my best to change that in 2010. Maybe a retailer there, or auction house like Hart Davis Hart or TCWC would like to co-sponsor a tasting event and have a guest? Anyway, at some point ... I'll get back there again and it will be to drink some fine Port with you :ftlop: ers.

Roy,

That is a shame. 1988 is a long time ago.

Of course, I and I'm sure others, will be happy to welcome you back to the Windy City. Count me in.

I'll be able to use a nice weekend getaway during the brisk winter there. I love it cold. Great for drinking Port.

Thanks Bryan!
