Here's the best website in the world re: SA Wines, one that I've been reading for the past 8 years. Should anybody be a serious fan of SA wines, let me know and I'll send you to the best source in the USA.
Although this is a fun article on their wine festivals, check out the rest of the site too ... if you enjoy the wines. Chock full of informed wine journalists who don't always follow the popular view:

Re: fOR those that appreciate So. African Wine
I'd like to try some more reds from RSA. The selection is usually minimal at B&M's. Out of the big producers, which companies should I look for?

Some of my favorite producers (stream of consciousness ... not in order of preference) these are tried and true blue chips in my humble opinion:
Meerlust
Warwick
Ken Forrester
Vergelegen
Hamilton Russell
Buitenverwachting
Thelema
Glen Carlou
Lanzerac
Beyerskloof
Rust en Vrede
Neil Ellis
Slaley
Kanonkop
Boekenhoutskloof
Le Bonheur
For SA ports:
JP Bredell
Boplass
KWV
Allesverloren
L'Avenir
DeKrans
KWV
Given 7.6 ZAR to the USD, there are still some steals left, like low hanging fruit. Enjoy the exploration!
