By the time you wake up in the a.m. you will find the email with the 2007 Vintage Port Forecast in your mailbox.
Included is the news of the next Guest Corner Host here on the Forum. Also a great Question For The Port Trade.
Also the new Tasting Note Data Base is launched shortly and will be ready to use.
I hope you all enjoy these developments. A few nice coups (thanks!) for subscribers! In addition to a slew of Buying Ops this year ... I hope access to content both in the newsletter and database, add value to your subscriptions and encourage a few folks to opt in along the way.
The above post relates to the TNDB - I haven't read the Newsletter yet
...but I recognise those "Unique Bottles of Port" pictured on the index page, which are only a small part of a facinating collection owned by a member of
Great job on the 2007s, Roy. True dedication to the cause and certainly the most comprehensive review of the vintage that has been undertaken by anyone on the planet, with the possible exception of the IVDP tasting panel who evaluated and approved all of these wines.
I have not read all of the TNs in detail yet but will do so over the next few days. Although I have only tasted half the number of wines from 2007 than you have I'm very pleased to see that lots of my personal favourites are in your top 10, and we share the same view on the overall winner
Your TNs have also made me think of a good topic for discussion on assessing and quantifying ageing potential, which I will no post in a separate thread...
I too have just skimmed the newsletter this morning (I'll read it when I get home this afternoon) but glad to see a couple of my favorites make the top 10. Including the #1 bottle that has been my favorite since I first laid my lips on it in April...

+1 on that. I just gave the TNDB a perusal and did a few searches. Bam! Found what I expected just like that. (There is a layout issue with my browser, SeaMonkey 1.1.15, when I first go to the TNDB, but this goes away after a search. I'll try 1.1.19 later. I can't upgrade to 2, which is more like Firefox, yet because of a bug in it.)
Hopefully I'll get to start on the 2007 forecast some time today.
I didn't notice whether or not this was included at launch, but I see that it now handles ranges of scores (e.g. 93-95). Is that the new feature you're talking about?
I just start using it and really like the fact that it detects when a topic has more than one tasting note in the same post.
Good eye Frederick! Here is the feature that was added:
We now link TN posts on a specific wine directly to that wine's tasting notes in the TNDB. For example, you are reading posts in the Port Tasting Note forum. Click on a TN topic - let's say 1980 Smith Woodhouse. You will see that for this post we recognize that there is an entry for it in the TNDB and in this case I have changed the text of the TNDB button to "See this Wine in the Tasting Note Database". Click on it and it will take you straight to all TNs for this wine!
