Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
The website and the
Newsletter give an address which is the Taylor-Fladgate lodge location in VndG. But the artist's conception in the newsletter shows a sprawling complex on a hillside that I don't see going where the lodge is. Does anyone know where the hotel will be located? There a big space across the street from the lodge, and I saw some construction further up the hillside from the lodge as well when I was last in Porto. Is one of these the location, or are they going to tear down the lodge warehouses for the hotel?

The Yeatman Hotel is in that big space across the street from the lodge (that you noted). It was quite the construction site when I was last there.

Re: Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
My guess is that it's the entire area you mention. It's going to be a large complex, so it probably starts across the street from the lodge and restaurant and extends all the way up to the top of the hill.
Is that lone tree still up there being carefully protected from the construction?

Adrian Bridge saw this thread and sent me a photo of the hotel's location.
He also sent this:
I'll forward to photo to Glenn to insert here as I have no clue how to make that happen.![In Training [d_training.gif]](./images/smilies/d_training.gif)
He also sent this:
The Yeatman is on 26,500 square meters - that is 7 acres - and over half will be gardens again as the car park is underground.
We kept all 6 old trees on the top part. We did not demolish anything to build this.
It opens next June.
I'll forward to photo to Glenn to insert here as I have no clue how to make that happen.

Re: Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
Glenn and Roy thanks for putting the pictures up.
This shows the site as it was in late 2008 - the hole is now filled and work is progressing to get it completed by June 2010. The site was originaly part of the Croft land and about 7,000 sq m that we bought from the Bishop of Porto - the trees we are protecting were on the Bishop's land. The bar terrace is below the trees.
It is completely separate from the Taylor visitors center and the restaurant that we have there. It is also seperate from the old Croft lodges that are below the hotel (i.e. closer to the river) and these will eventualy will become houses/apartments is a low density development.
Each room will be sponsored by a Portuguese wine brand (fortified, still or sparking). This will give individuality and, I hope, lead to us having the largest Portuguese wine list in the world.
I will talk to Roy about how we can do something special for FTLP subscribers.

Re: Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
It's been fun watching the progress on the hotel each time Ive been in Gaia. In October I noticed a cable car being built at the water front. It looks like it goes up to the hotel. Does anyone know if that is where the cable car has a stop at. If so that would make that long walk up the hill so much easier!
I hope it is completed by my next visit to Gaia next year!

Re: Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
Thanks for the photos and explanation. I see now that it is in fact both across the street and the construction I saw--it's huge! It perhaps explains that odd and unused traffic circle (also visible in the photos) we walked by a few times when heading to the lodge.Eric Menchen wrote:There a big space across the street from the lodge, and I saw some construction further up the hillside from the lodge as well when I was last in Porto. Re: Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
There is one more photo I have which depicts what a hotel room at the new Yeatman will look like. I will forward it to Glenn, so he can post it for us.

Wow, I really want to stay there now!
So Roy, any chance we'll be using the Yeatman on one of the Harvest tours?
Or would that totally blow the budget?

I suppose we will have to wait to see if there are rooms sponsored by Dow, Gould Campbell, Graham, Martinez, Quarles Harris, Smith Woodhouse or Vesuvio?Adrian Bridge wrote:Each room will be sponsored by a Portuguese wine brand (fortified, still or sparking). Re: Anyone know where the Yeatman will be?
And if so, how they compare to the Taylor, Fonseca, and Croft rooms. Desk clerk: "Oh, I'm sorry you didn't find that Dow room to your liking. You really should have requested the Taylor."Derek T. wrote:I suppose we will have to wait to see if there are rooms sponsored by Dow, Gould Campbell, Graham, Martinez, Quarles Harris, Smith Woodhouse or Vesuvio?![]()

Wondering if this ever materialized!Adrian Bridge wrote: I will talk to Roy about how we can do something special for FTLOP subscribers.
Would love to stay there and be treated to something special, whatever it may be.
I fully trust in Roy and Adrian's judgement in deciding on what!

As much as I would like to bring our guests to this fine hotel, our group has only been offered the same rates that anyone can obtain by clicking on their website. ![DuckNcover [foilhat.gif]](./images/smilies/foilhat.gif)
