From Roy:
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been working on putting together a fabulous offering of Madeiras SOLELY for the FTLOP Forumites. This will be available to you through Thursday 2 p.m. GMT, at which time ... the rest of the world will be allowed to purchase these wines too. ONLY 2 (consumers) buyers besides us are given the same "PRIVILEGE."
The company that many of you might already know is the respected retailer ANTIQUE WINE COMPANY. Before I mention to you the wines offered and the speciality of this to FTLOP members only ... please note, I have done this with ZERO profit motive in mind. THE ONLY benefit that I get, is that this company will cross-promote FTLOP in their mailing and on their website. PERIOD. That hopefully will bring more people to read the newsletter and hopefully a few new faces here on the Forum. So that is what my entire compensation is ... as that is exactly what I asked for.
Now what they are offering to us:
* They accept all major credit cards including AMEX
* They will ship to the USA, EU, UK of course ... or any other country that permits wines to be shipped.
* Their prices are Excluding Taxes (same as on wine searcher). If someone buys from outside the UK they'll have no taxes to pay, as they'll be refunded to you.
* Mention "For The Love Of Port" and receive an additional 5% off already great prices!
* 72 hour advance notice of this offer ... even prior to their own mailing list customers, which gives you folks an incredible opportunity here. It is like going to an auction with 2 dozen friends, 3 days before others can bid ... yet you can walk away with the wines!
* Any question about scores or Broadbent tasting notes or prices/availability ... just pick up the phone.
ALTHOUGH YOU CAN EMAIL ... I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU CALL TO PLACE YOUR ORDERS AS THE REST OF THE WORLD WILL KNOW ABOUT THIS OFFER ON THURSDAY, SO THERE IS NO REASON TO TAKE A CHANCE AND NOT CONTACT THE ANTIQUE WINE COMPANY DIRECTLY!!!

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
Just curious, did anyone buy in?
I ask, because of the time involved in putting this together. IF nobody will take advantage of these types of deals, I won't bother you with them in the future.

Roy,
I didn't take advantage of the offer because I have already blown my wine budget this month (and for the next two!).
But the offer was of great interest. I looked at the options and now know much more about the Antique Wine Company than I did before.
I would be even more interested in a similar offer of ports, if there is a similar offer in the future.
But many thanks for putting the offer together Roy. Even if I didn't take advantage of the offer, I still appreciated the effort you went to in organising it and posting it here.

Roy, i'm sure your efforts to bring Madeira to a wider audience should be applauded. There are not enough easy and transparent sources of Madeira - those that are visible online are often just being 'broked' at large mark-ups.
Some of the reticence to buy from this offer may be down to the prices - they aren't *that* keen - even with a 5% discount. That fact that the list bears more than a passing resemblance to a list that many people interested in Madeira may have received last year at significantly cheaper prices might also have dissuaded some.
Don't let it put you off. I'm sure if new sources of madeira were found and advertised here then there would be significant interest - e.g. talking to madeira houses to release some ex-cellar wines direct or putting together a list from individuals happy to sell odd bottles.

Roy,
Thank you for the hard work putting it together. The bad news is I wasn't able to take advantage of it as I ended up with some home remodeling costs this month that has really cut into my wine spending budget for a month or two
But keep posting them as I have taken advantage in the past.

Madeira Offer
Roy,
I ordered four bottles of d'Oliveira '77 Bual. I also thought that the prices were high (Rare Wine company has the '77 Terrantez for $95), but I hadn't seen this elsewhere and it's my son's birth year.
Thanks for the effort, and please continue. Madeira is too difficult to find and the prices have escalated so much, that any new sources are appreciated.

OK, I appreciate the feedback and will continue to seek out supplies of Madeira and Port (of course) and possibly in the future ... Douro wines that are not fortified.
I must be honest since it was mentioned more than once, that I also thought that some of the prices were not advantageous. But as I don't represent this company, or any for that matter ... it was an effort to have some unique, well stored Madeiras made available to FTLOP'ers before anyone else. The Antique Wine Company went out of their way to work with us here and make this something special. I am unfamiliar about any other offer that looked similar last year, but what can I say?
I can not provide any details, but will say that there is going to be one major release this year ... of an OLD Vintage Madeira, never before seen on the market. I will alert you as soon as this is made official.
