2005 Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage Port (cask sample) – Opaque garnet color with dark raspberry, cocoa powder and fresh floral fragrances. It started out thin but gained considerable weight over the following two days. Medium-full bodied with such sweetness that it was by far the standout in terms of ripeness and residual sugar. Soft and silky smooth, with expressive black currant and pure grapy nuances. Chalky tannins come rushing in late to crash the party and leave a lasting impression on the lingering aftertaste which hints at milk chocolate. Drink now through 2022. 90-92 points 12/17/07

The 2005 vintage is my second child's birthyear. Now that it has been available for awhile, what is your recommendation for different bottles to seek to store for my child?

Raj,

I recommend that you aquire as much of the 2005 Vesuvio as you can find. It is superb, and will age for decades.

Based on notes I've read, but not my own tasting, of 2005 I've stocked up on Barros and Croft Quinta da Roeda. I've also bought Niepoort (always interesting), Quinta de Roriz (great price at my local B&M), and Taylor Quinta de Vargellas (I kind of think of Taylor as the IBM of the Port world--sure, there might be an off year or bottle, but no one can blame you for buying Taylor). I need to get some of the Vesuvio.
