Are you bothered by a swarm of daily email wine sales offering?
I know that during the course of a typical day, I receive over 20 different offers from retailers and the majority of which I never have asked to be on their mailing list and have not purchased from them before. Of course, it is easy to just hit the "delete" button and move on. However, is this something that you mind, welcome or don't pay any attention to?
How often do you open up your emails from retailers with offers that you are unable to decipher from the title itself?

So far, all the wine sellers who have my email are legitimate, in that I have either bought from them or inquired at their website. They all (so far) have clearly identified their emails as wine sales.

Everything e-mail I get I've either bought from or at least registered at their web site. I was a bit annoyed by a few, in cases where I registered to make a purchase and then found out there was a pricing mistake or they didn't have something in stock. It seems like those have honored my request for no further e-mails. I clearly don't get as many offers as Roy, and the ones I'm now receiving I don't mind. I've gotten a lot of good deals through e-mail offers, often at prices below what later shows up on a web site listing, if it makes it that far.

The only ones I get are by choice right now, and I'm happy with it. I'm a buyer in 2010.

I'd estimate that I probably receiver 10-15 emails each day from various wine retailers. It is getting to the point that I'm getting tried of hitting "delete" over & over again. In my opinion, when I receive 2-3 emails a day from the same retailer it seems pretty clear that things has gotten out of hand....

Now that is something I agree with. I don't mind the daily email offering, but there is no reason for a retailer to regularly send out 2 or 3+ emails a day. That does irritate me as well and the only retailers I've dropped were ones who regularly do this.Marc J. wrote: In my opinion, when I receive 2-3 emails a day from the same retailer it seems pretty clear that things has gotten out of hand....

Re: Are you bothered by a swarm of daily email wine sales offering?

I routinely exercise my rights according to CAN-SPAM and tell them to take me off their mailing lists. There are only a couple of wine stores that I continue to receive emails from, and it is ONLY because their mailings are no more than monthly.
Daily emails from any merchant are outrageous. They don't actually think I'm going to buy something every day do they? Even weekly email solicitations are pushing the limits civility.
1) Their stock hasn't changed significantly in the last week.
2) Their prices haven't changed significantly in the last week.
3) My need to buy hasn't changed significantly in the last week.
Ergo, anything more than monthly is plainly and simply spam.
To be completely honest, I wouldn't mind there being a $0.10 fee (collected by the Post Office, of course) for every email sent. That'd kill off the spamming right away, now wouldn't it? The only reason businesses assault us with email solicitations is because they are free for the business. I'm the one picking up the cost for them to solicit me because I have to pay for my email account. That's ridiculous.

Even though it does help, the government screwed up CAN-SPAM. Just because I give my email address to a business for purposes of order tracking does not in any way give that business the right to solicit me using that email address. Yet that's exactly what CAN-SPAM allows... every time you place an order. Legally, you have to repeatedly remove yourself from the business's email database every time you conduct business with them, which includes something as simple as calling customer service. Most businesses are more intelligent than that - once you've asked to be removed they keep you removed - but not all of them. I stop doing business with the ones that don't get it.

I want to create a wine excluse email name and have everything go there. It does get to be a bit much with all the wine emails. The only ones I would really want to receive are from auction houses so I don't forget to bid or at least look.
