cellartracker buddies

Post by Thomas Tideman Holst »

Hi,

I expect that many of you are using the cellartracker.
Would anyone be interested in showing their cellars at cellartracker, by using the buddy function?

As I am a new collector and VP enthusiast, i find it very interesting to look at other cellars with port focus.

If you would like to see my cellar, and show me yours - add "ttholst" as a buddy...

Regards

You have to have the user's CT account number to add someone as a buddy. This makes adding a CTB a two-step process: look up a user name, write down or memorize the number, then go to 'buddies' and add the number to your buddies list.

Personally, I just make my cellar viewable to anyone who knows my CT username: pwm

I don't have anything valuable enough to tempt someone to make a special expedition to the wilds of SE Michigan for the purposes of raiding my cellar.

14669 is my CT usernumber, to save anyone that wants to add me as a cellar buddy one step of the process.

I did discover while exploring the CTB system that Glenn has added me as a favorite taster. I can only assume he adds all FTLOP members as he finds them, since my tasting notes are nothing very useful. I don't have enough confidence to give scores, and my notes are mostly "liked this", "disliked this" and "this wine was paired with that food at a wine dinner".

The latter observations might just be useful, as these pairings were usually made by the savviest pairing pair I've ever run into: Paesanos' Chef Isabella Nicoletti and (former) Wine-Guy Chaad Thomas. They have done well by me in over 150 instances, only missing 2 or 3 times. Chaad still comes back to assist with wine dinners occasionally. They are, in fact, the people who inspired my phrase: "The wine explains the food; the food explains the wine." Tasting the wine, I sometimes ask myself, "Why did they include this wine?" Then the food comes out. The food is good, but so are a lot of foods. I take a sip of the wine with the food, and all is revealed.

I go to about 6-8 wine dinners a year, and have done so for a decade or more. Other pairing people have "hit me" only about 50-60% of the time. Sometimes, after tasting the food and wine together, I wonder, "Why did they include either of these on the menu tonight?"

And you would be correct.

I add CT names that I recognize (or am told about) just to make it easier to find reviews that I know I can trust, or at the very least that I can ask about here on FTLOP either by PM or in a thread.

My CT userid is gelliott if anyone wants to add me.

it's quite easy on CT. Just use the left hand side, enter a user name in and it shows you. Then add them as a buddy...I just added Thomas

The good news with GrapeStories ... (why the name change [dash1.gif] ) ... is that :ftlop: is currently developing a way for you to -- with-just-one-click -- import your CT TNs (Port/Madeira/Portuguese wines) over from there with ease.
