TN: Niepoort Redoma Tinto 2006

Post by Frederick Blais »

Tasted on 2 days, this Redoma was even better on the 2nd day. I did not take any formal notes, here are my impressions.

Redoma is the wild espression of the Douro in the Niepoort line of red wines. Uppon release, I was not a big fan of this version as fruit was looking dilute and oak too dominant. Today, the wood was completly absent and the fruit was shining! This 2006 is not as concentrated as in previous years, but on the other hand it offers a fantastic fruit driven bouquet supported with licorice and floral notes. Medium body, this wine delivers freshness and ripe red cherries, plums, licorice flavours. I really like the entry on the palate, the tannins definition was getting better on the 2nd day, with great texture, silky and deliciously long fruity finish. The wild horse got tamed, but I like it! 17/20+
