Your Favorite Vintage Overall

Post by Roy Hersh »

Only looking back to the past 9 vintages ... please pick one and if you'd like to share your reason for your choice, please feel free to elaborate.

:thanks: :winepour:

Chose 1999 because it is a very important vintage: arguably the year that the Douro region "exploded". Fortunate to still have plenty of Quinta do Vale Meão and Barca Velha 1999 to enjoy...

As i haven´t tasted enough 2007´s to form an opinion on the vintage, i ´ll go for 2004...love the austerity and the promise for the future this vintage carries!!!!

Pedro,

The hardest thing is keeping your hands off of the wines from this vintage. Actually, that is my problem every time I go to my DOC Douro wine section as with the exception of 2 or 3 bottles all the rest are from the late 1990s and younger. Poor me! :(

I picked 2000 because that is what I see on the shelf the most; especially on lower end priced bottles that are great. To be honest, I don't take notice of vintages on Douro dry wines as long as there are a few years on the bottle. [kez_11.gif]

Looking back at these scores after some time, I wonder if people would vote for 2007 more now that they've been released for some time. In my opinion 2007 deserves a spot in the top 3 of vintages of the last decade, together with 2004 and 2001.
