Port wood finish Scotch

Post by Frederick Blais »

Any fans of this? The only one I've seen in Quebec so far is the Glennmorangie. Is there anything else on the market, any high quality in these type of Scotch or it is just used to enhance cheap left overs? I like the mellowness and sweetness it brings to the Scotch, I'm definitively not a Isley type.

I'm actually more a fan of the classic Sherry wood aging. A bit less sweet than the Port wood aging.

I've seen a few brands with port wood at local B&M. Never tried one.

Fred,

When you finally come to visit my homeland I will take you on a tour of some of the famous distilleries in the Highlands and we can test all this theory out in reality

Interesting subject.

During my trip to Scotland last October 2009, as a Port fanatic, I've made a seriously incursion to some distilleries with some Port finish whiskies.
My very favourite ones:

Pitlochry’s gems:

The smallest distillery in Scotland - EDRADOUR - 2003 Port 46% - single malt, which has been wholly matured in a bodega port butt and matured port for at least 20 years. Bottled unchillfiltered.

BLAIR ATHOL 8 Year Old 40% Port Finish - Beautiful!

Some other worth to try:

TULLIBARDINE 1993 Port Finish
ABERLOUR Port Finish
