I can see it on my office laptop, which suggests you need minimal MS installation to see it.

Dead Snow is available from Amazon and presumably elsewhere. (Widescreen or BluRay; in Norwegian, subtitled in English.)

Re: Need Video Suggestions
Just watched A Perfect Getaway this evening. I can't remember who recommended this to me, but If I ever do, they had better watch out.
It depends on surprise, so I won't discuss the story.
Not my style at all. A really good puzzle-thriller, spoiled (for me) by gratuitous gore, and cheap-shot horror-movie jolts. Fairly good acting, intense story, good twists, but it could have been done better. Some pacing problems: under-explained early; over-explained in the middle; finally evened out towards the end.
I expect my dislike is mostly personal; this would probably suit a lot of folks perfectly. Judging by some previous recommendations in this thread, maybe a lot of FTLOP folks.

The Bad Detective - although some witty shots and an occasional infusion of humor from the darkest recesses of what Harvey Keitel can portray, this is about as bright and cheery as Leaving Las Vegas but instead of a down on his luck drunk, we have a detective without scruples.
My bad luck w/police genre turned to TRAINING DAY next, and another flawed movie with Denzell Washington depicting a lack of scruples, but any regard for "protect and serve" sensibilities. Some intense moments for sure and good acting, but neither could get out of the way of the ridiculous story line.

This is the third viewing of CRASH from several years ago, and each time I watch it, there are more nuances. Not a perfect movie, but very close. Solid A. From the casting to scriptwriting to the cinematography and editing, a pretty masterful flick.

Another old gem I watched this weekend for the first time in ages, on IFC channel:
The amazing and funny Woody Allen feature: SLEEPER
Absolutely a brilliant film and it is fun to see if so many years later, yet again.

Watched The Proposal last night. It was a light rom/com, but had a couple of thoroughly implausible plot points that were difficult to file under willful suspension of disbelief. Worth a Netflix slot if you like rom/coms, but don't expect too much. It's not Sandra Bullock's best work.

The Endless Summer (1964)
The prototypical surfing documentary. Two guys travel around the world following summer and surf. Very dated in production values and PC-ness. Still one of the best, and still watchable. It reminds me of the very early Warren Miller ski movies.
Speaking of which, Warren Miller ski movies are a good watch as well. I remember these in the 1950s when Warren Miller would tour these movies himself, narrating silent 16mm films himself, live. We used to see him every year in the basement of the Bay City (MI) Public Library. I only see his more modern films on his website, but they are still a lot of fun to watch.

One worth watching: The Men Who Stare at Goats! A funny movie that is surprisingly at least somewhat based on fact.

Great movie but as much as I like the original, I like the newer version a little better. Then again, maybe that's just due to a generation differencePeter W. Meek wrote:The Endless Summer (1964)

No idea if this is really based on fact or not, but I gotta say this was a pretty funny movie. I honestly didn't want to see it at first because I thought it would be a cheesy film. Boy was I wrong!Dylan Howard wrote:One worth watching: The Men Who Stare at Goats! A funny movie that is surprisingly at least somewhat based on fact.

Re: Need Video Suggestions
there are some extras on the DVD which delve into the fact behind it. Apparently there was such a military program. I doubt any soldiers actually killed goats or burst clouds with their minds, but its fascinating nonetheless.

Thank you to whomever recommended Dr. P's Imaginarium ... (Moses?) ... odd, but v. entertaining.

It's Complicated Meryl Streep
Might be a "chick movie' but there are very few Meryl Streep movies that are not worth watching. Watched this twice this week and enjoyed it even more the second time.

BTW, V for Vendetta is pretty good in a 'graphic novel' sort of way.

It was decent. My girlfriend loved it. I can see why many would say it is brilliant. Many scenes were well orchestrated.Espen S. wrote:I think it's brilliant. A lot of people seem to dislike it though.Peter W. Meek wrote:BTW, V for Vendetta is pretty good in a 'graphic novel' sort of way.
