2007 Quinta do Crasto

Post by Roy Hersh »

I was very much hoping that there would be 2007 Quinta do Crasto, Tinta Roriz ... as I was pretty impressed when this was served as a cask sample. However, after a long and difficult blind tasting panel session, with 8 key members present, the Roquettes decided that the Roriz and Touriga Nacional would not be bottled from the great 2007 harvest.

Their Tinta Roriz was only declared in 1997, 1999 and 2003 and Touriga Nacional was declared in 1995, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Honestly, I was really hoping to keep my verticals alive with the 2007, especially after the string of four consecutive years of fine TN.

This shows how strict Crasto is when it comes to decidiing what should be released.

I am very much looking forward to seeing how the 2007 Q d Crasto Vinha Velha Reserva has fleshed out in the past 9 months, as well as the Vinha da Ponte and Maria Teresa.

I can only imagine how the Vinha Maria Teresa tastes like in 2007! I've had the 2005 twice with consistent notes at 95-96 p and would love to hear more on the 2007 when you have any update to share! [cheers.gif]

Will do, receiving my delivery this week. I had the 2003 and 2005 Maria Teresa side by side recently with bottles I brought to Portugal last month. Both were fantastic. The 2003 is drinking better now, but I prefer the 2005, but will wait for the oak to integrate further so it will show even better. The 2007 from cask was great. Can't wait.

The Tinta Roriz 2003 is great, among the best varietals they had crafted.
Charming, elegant juicy, silky, high toned, briliant since the birth
I prefer it to the Touriga Nacional 03, until now. After Touriga looses the baby fat,
it gets dramtically more refined. Fortunately, plenty of bottles
of both in the cellar for future check. :yumyum:
