A patch of wine dirt worth visiting

[T]op spot has to be the high, wild, mountainous valleys of the Douro, home to port and, increasingly, to some majestic red Portuguese table wines, yet so far away from the rest of the wine world that traditions here appear almost medieval.

David,

Thanks for that extremely well-written piece that I could really relate to. Since the winelands of So. Africa would be my 2nd place favorite Appellation, after Portugal's dynamic duo (Douro/Madeira), based on nearly identical reasons as mentioned in the thoughtful piece. I thoroughly enjoyed the warmth in Ms. MacQuitty's stylish descriptions.
It would be great to see others post Port/Madeira/Douro wine related ARTICLE links here, including a brief sketch of the story's contents.
Much appreciated David!
