I was in Portland 3 weeks ago for a short vacation and as I was walking around town I found a deli with a "We sell Port and Champagne here!" sign which obviously quickly got me in the door ;)

Inside I found a nice selection of port and a bunch of French reds (Bordeaux, CdP, though I didn't look too closely), but almost everything was still packed up and not on the shelf, nor did it look like a place to buy wine. I asked the girl at the till about it and she said that her grandfather recently passed away and had a big collection which they were now selling.

I picked up a 1994 Warres there for $50, which seemed quite reasonable to me. Would've grabbed more but the 2 bottles across the border law got me again.

If anyone's in the Pearl District, it's worth a stop, especially if you're a fan of French wines. I'm not familiar enough with their prices but their could be some bargains in there. The shop is called Martinottis' Cafe (404 SW 10th Ave, Portland).

1x 1992 Fonseca VP
1x 1996 Quinta do Vesuvio VP
Now I need to get a 1992 Taylor. There was one up on winebid, but I didn't bid immediately and now someone else has. Yes, I could outbid them, but I'll look for another.

That's a great deal. That's close to what I paid on release!

A couple of Taylor 20, a NY Malmsey, and a Boston Boal. No great bargains, but a super discount and no sales tax.

6 bottles Smith Woodhouse 1985. Paid slightly over the odds for them but the provenance was perfect - they had been stored by Berry Brothers since delivery in 1988.

Wow. This is a very nice Port. One of my favorites from the 1985 vintage. Let us know how it is when you open one!

I am sure it was stil quite deal compared to what us Yanks would pay.

I am working on a couple of cases of 1994 Broadbent/Niepoort. The owner is trying to find them in his cellar. I hope to get them for around $300 a case.
