TN: 2000 Bredell's Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: None - South Africa. Cape Vintage. Made from a blend of approximately 50% Tinta Barocca, 35% Touriga Nacional, 5% Touriga Francesca and 10% Sousao grapes from vineyards yielding around 6 tonnes per hectare. Deep colour, slightly lighter on the rim. Ripe pears on the nose, over a soft and floral lavendar essence. Very sweet in the mouth, with flavours dominated by sweet redcurrant and floral Turkish Delight. Plenty of tannin in the wine, but the tannin is soft and supportive of the fruit core. Good aftertaste of sweet damsons and black cherries. This is a very polished wine that is elegant and approachable now. While not in the same class as the Cape Vintage Reserve wines, it is a pleasure to drink and would help the will-power needed to leave the Cape Vintage Reserve bottles in the cellar for a few more years. 89 points
