TN: 2003 Bredell's Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: None - South Africa. Cape Vintage. Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca and Suzao grapes. Pitch black in colour with a hint of red showing through only when held up to the light. Absolutely opaque centre and leaves red tears on the glass when swirled - this is a very young port! Pears on the nose, similar to the 2000 vintage and also the floral tones, but this time accompanied by blueberries. Sweet and fruity entry, before a blast of acidity cuts through the fruit. The acidity needs to mellow a little, but the amount of fruit in the wine should allow this to happen over time. The aftertaste is long - very long - and has some interesting flavours of bitter cherry. In need of time, this was a wine that suffered from not have been decanted before being shown. 90 points
