Interesting article. I can only say my SA (South African) wine experience is quite limited. Maybe worth wild to locate some and give them a shot. Can anyone recommend a decent SA fortified wine (or regular dry red) that is available here in the US?

I don't want to start getting into other countries table wines but if you are truly wanting to head in that direction, either email me or check ebob where I frequently post about SA wines/wineries.

I can tell you that DeToren, Allesverloren, Boplaas and DeKrans make very fine fortifieds and occasionally some of the old KWV single vintage Tawny ports are excellent too.

The absolute best source of SA wines in the USA is not far from where you are living. Call John (owner) at Southern Hemisphere Wine Center at: 800 504-9463. In addition to SA wines they feature NZ, Australia and So America too.

If you have ever enjoyed Bailey's Irish Cream, you owe it to yourself to try the delicious Cream Liquer called Amarula which they sell for $19. Really fine stuff and if you do buy one, I'd love to hear your opinion.

Also, if you are willing to try something unique that is not fortified, grab a bottle of the 2000 Klein Contantia Vin de Constance which they offer at $45. Ask John is he still has any late '90s vintage VdC, and if so go for it! World class class!
