what crisis?

Post by Daniel R. »

At the moment in Portugal the news are full of depressing news regarding the deficit, the budget, tax raises, etc.

In the world of Port, within 1 month, two anti-crisis releases have been announced:

Andresen 1910 Colheita: initial botlting of 100 bottles at € 2000 each;
Taylor's Scion (new bottling of 2 pipes, circa 1850): € 2500 per bottle.

I will be able to taste the Andresen as I will attend a tasting in November of Andresen Colheitas. Don't see how I will be able to taste the Scion though...

We tasted the 1910 Andresen Colheita on the Harvest Tour and it was magnificent. I gave it 98 points!

This was a fantastic bottle and glad I had the opportunity to taste it. I've only had maybe one or two of their Ports before, but after an extensive young and old line up during the harvest tour I am duly impressed by their work! Andresen is worth seeking out, especially their tawny's and Colheita's.

Agreed. I absolutely loved this. That was a fantastic visit. I had not had their wines before so this was a real suprise.

Perhaps this was part of the stock that Taylor Fladgate acquired from the Casa do Douro a couple of years ago?

Taylors SCION, is a Vintage from 1855, that has been passed from generations in the hands of the same family living in Régua.
In 2008 David Guimaraes tasted it and said that the complexity of this Port was amazing.
In 2009 the last person in charge of this treasure passed away and by leaving no heritor, the family decided to sell the two oak pipes of the 1855 VP... the rest of story is easy to understand, 1000 fancy bottles in a wooden box for 2500€... will be a lovely gift for the launching month (December).

That was an excellent Colheita. Not my favorite of the night though. 1910 really held its color and was quite delicate. I scored it 94 points.

Andresen's 1970 Colheita was one of the best of the trip and their 1937 Colheita that was open 10 days was still rocking!
