If you don't find it blasphemy to try a Californian "port", may I suggest one by Blackstone Winery. They have tasting rooms in Sonoma and near Monterey. The port is something like 80% souzao(?) and 20% syrah. It has a lighter, more jam-like, and sweet berry flavor than the few Portugese rubies that I have tried. This wine goes down pretty easy. Last I checked, they were $12 per 750ml, but supplies were running low.
