TN: 15 Year Old Verdelho by Henriques and Henriques

Post by Andy Velebil »

I don't drink enough Madeira as I should, I know I know :beat:  Tonight I was chomping some moderately spicy beef jerky and needed something more than Port to go with it and this was what I had on hand. Plenty of VA, beef bullion, and candies walnuts on the nose. Slightly sweet initially quickly gives way to some heat and a drier more lean profile. Not all that complex compared to some, yet still enjoyable at the same time. I found this for $17/bottle at a retailer near me and at that price this way over delivers. Not sure what normal retail is of this but if found at a good price I think it's worth the price.

Did the label say "verdelho"? I had D'Oliveira's 15 year "Meio Seco" in 2006. It was made from TNM. I thought that it was rather good, but overpriced at $57. If they are the same wines, you got a bargain. I wonder if it was mistakenly priced as a 5 year old wine?

Oh, and you're right. You don't drink enough madeira. If a pint a day was appropriate for George Washington, I think that we should follow suit.

It had "Verdelho" on the label. I was told by the wine store owner he bought these from a distributor at discount and he doesn't believe in marknig things up past his normal percentage, even if that means selling it for far less than it should sell for. Needless to say, I respect any shop owner that does that and support his shop as much as I can! Here's a pic of the bottle I got off the internet (but mine looks the same).

The only verdelho I've had is the Savannah Verdelho. How does this one compare, out of curiosity? I just can't believe that bottle was $17, though.

I had a brain cramp. I misread the title. I have had the H&H 15 year verdelho and like it a lot. I think it is regularly available for $30 from at least one California vendor. Somebody is distributing this stuff at very low prices. The sercial is also very good
