Odd Looking 1957 Vintage Bottle

Post by Moses Botbol »

Ever see this bottle before? I know the pictures are crappy. I am waiting to get more info on it and may pick it up this weekend. He states it has been stored in a wine cellar.

What is he selling it or describing it as?

And what is on the label, as it's hard to read?

Smart a**

Let me clarify....what has the seller told you about the bottle thus far? And how much money is he asking for said bottle?

He said his dad has had for 65 years. He wants $200, but I think it's worth more like $75

This isn't port - it's Puro Velho made by Caves Do Casolinho in the Vinhos Verdes region, and I think it's a white wine.

Drinkable? Possibly - possibly not..!

Yes, that is too what I think it is. He sent a better picture that is still lousy and it appear not to be port. Oh well... [dash1.gif]

I believe that I actually have a bottle of this very same wine. We inherited a house in porto with a wine cellar. When clearing out/tidying up the cellar I found a bottle very similar to this one more or less discarded among some empty bottles. I remember three things about the bottle: It has a very unusual shape, it was dated back to the '50s (and I think it may well be 1957), and frankly I found the bottle a bit unnerving. The bottle was much, much dustier than anything else in the cellar, and with its strange shape and having apparantly been discarded I was a bit spooked by it. I'm sure that my bottle was table wine.

Can't give any more details unfortunately - the bottle is in Porto and I am in London!
