I've just noticed that on Saturday May 6, at 9:48am , there were 33 people on the forum.
A new record was established. Well done everyone.

New Forum Record

I happened to be online at the time and sent Stewart an email when I noticed how many people were on line. Only 8 or 9 active members names appeared though and the rest were lurkers. Still, it was a record and something to celebrate. I don't ever think we'll beat that number (the previous number was 14) but who knows. It may someday be a trivia question here.

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
Of COURSE we'll be that record
Didn't I hear somewhere that Port is catching on among the 20-30 something crowd?

Stewart,
I don't have numbers, but from experience being 33 years old and having friends in their early 20's to late 30's I can say a surprising number are starting to drink ports. Now were not talking VP's Per Se, but more ruby's or cheap tawnys. But you got start somewhere.
Most of my friends look to the fact that per bottle prices are cheaper for port, the bottle lasts more than one day, and since there is not 200 bottles to chose from at a store, it is easier to try several and then go back and get the same thing a week, month, or year later.
Roy,
I know in due time we'll beat that number

How true...
Yes, having just officially crossed into my mid 30's, I've certainly noticed a lot of my friends - mid 30's and younger - are taking up Port. I think your hypothesis is sound - longer bottle life once it's opened and more limited number of choices. Although if they see the list of the 57 Port producers in this month's FTLOP newsletter, they may start thinking differently about that second point. :)
I've opened a few VPs for friend who said they didn't like Port. "It's too sweet!" - In fact, last weekend I opened a 2000 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria for some non-Port friends and they were stunned. They had never had a VP before and loved even a young VP that had complexity they had never tasted in a tawny or ruby from their local grocery store. Instant converts.
