This was one of the finest Madeira events I've attended in ages and that's saying a mouthful as I get to as many as I possibly can. The organization was near-perfect, my only quibble is that we did not have another three hours with the 15 glasses of Madeira before us during the sit down portion of the event. A rarity for me is finding a bunch of new Madeiras that I've never had before. There were more than a half dozen of the 15 which I've not tasted before. And I am not just talking about the 1811 and 1822 which were once-in-a-lifetime experiences, but there were several ninetheenth century bottles and a few Terrantez at that, which I've never seen or tasted before.
We had a nice lunch after the tasting and then there was a 3 hour trade tasting with a few dozen more Madeiras going back to 1920 Bual, the oldest Blandy Madeira still in cask on the island. Remarkable day with Michael and Chris Blandy in attendance for their first time to the area (San Francisco) and also Rupert Symington.
