2000 Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha auction

Post by *John Trombley »

one bottle of 2000 Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha sold for $136 yesterday on an online auction. Was this a good buy? Has anyone posted any notes on this wine?

I was sorely tempted to bid on this auction, but my attention was taken up by a suberb deal on my beloved Germans and didn't get back to it in time...

That looks a pretty good price to me. Currently this wine retails in the UK for the equivalent of anything between $200 and $280 per bottle (plus 17½% tax).

But you would expect it to be around 30% cheaper if bought at auction.

I'Ve never seen any tasting notes about this vintage yet, I've bought mine and I just can't open one that young. About the price, it is a good price.

Simon

Are you sure its the Vinha Velha you've seen go for that price at auction and not the regular Vargellas?

If it is the Vinha Velha that you have seen and you see it come up for auction again, please post a note on the Marketplace forum. I would love to pick up a bottle or two and open one to see if it deserves its reputation as being Taylor's answer to Nacional.

Thanks,

Alex
