Beer & Wine Consumption in the USA

Post by Roy Hersh »

For decades, actually since Prohibition ended in 1933, there's no question that beer has far outpaced wine consumption in the USA. But that is clearly changing if you believe the folks that bring you the Gallup Poll. No, not Gallo! [dance2.gif]

Craft beer has been running 5-10% growth for most of the last two decades. From the Brewers Association:
Growth of the craft brewing industry in 2010 was 11% by volume and 12% by dollars compared to growth in 2009 of 7.2% by volume and 10.3% by dollars.
If people are drinking less Bud Light, I applaud them.

I would say that it is a similar story in this part of the world too, possibly even a bit higher. A more recent trend here over the past 2-3 years has been the rise of cider and perry (pear cider). Many of the craft brewers have a cider as part of their range but also the larger brewers have invested time and money in developing ciders as well.
